Whixley 10k

Sunday 27th October
This scenic race around Whixley and the surrounding area is a multi-terrain course across fields, along tracks, and with some road running too. The previous day’s deluge resulted in a couple of course diversions, as the RNLI were unavailable to fish us out of a lake that had been created by the rain. However, we still got to splash our way through numerous muddy puddles, and were glad to have tied our shoes on tight as the mud tried hard to relieve us of them! Happily the sun shone, though it made little difference to the conditions underfoot. After negotiating the fields of mud, the final mile or so returns to road, before a lap of slippy playing field to the finish. Runners from Nidd Valley, Easingwold and Thirsk were out in force, so plenty of local rivalry and comradery. Three Ripon Runners mastered the mudfest avoiding slips and trips.
First back for Ripon, 4th overall was Simon Cave in 38m39s. Simon was awarded the M40 prize.
Anne Cheeseman, 9th lady overall, 51m37s. Anne was awarded the F50 prize.
Fiona Alder, 5th in her age category with a very creditable 58m18s.
A very enjoyable race which supports the Village Hall at Whixley, a facility vital to the local community. Goody bag includes bag of dried fruits and seeds, chocolate bar, hair product, plus water and banana at finish. Home-made cake, drinks, hot food served at Village Hall. Prizes this year for top 3 males and females, and then 1st male and female in 10 year age categories, but one prize per person. Also, flowers were given to the tail walker and the final finisher.
