Tour de Helvellyn
Colm O’Cofaigh did the Tour de Helvellyn on Saturday, a ‘Nav4’ event that is about 38 miles long. It starts and finishes in Askham and comprises an unmarked loop around Helvellyn mainly on mountain trails and bridleways. It heads southwest from Askham to Howtown and then up Boredale before descending to Patterdale. From there it heads up Glenridding and over Sticks Pass to Thirlmere returning via Dunmail Raise, Grisedale Tarn and Patterdale back to Askham. There was plenty of snow on the ground on Helvellyn and quite a few skiers out! Colm did amazingly well in the tough conditions and finished in 9 hours 51 mins.
