Tandem
Report by Claire Baker
The Lets Run Adventures Tandem took place on Sunday 19th of January starting and finishing at Goathland Village Hall on the North Yorkshire Moors. The event is a challenge event open to runners and walkers with a time limit of 10 hours. The event is done as a pair with one going on the East Route and the other on the West Route. Both start off from Goathland and then split onto their respective route, then join back up again at Newton upon Rawcliffe Village Hall and complete the last part of the challenge together. The last part of the challenge must be done as a pair.
The race is advertised as both routes being around 28 miles long and having about 3,500ft of elevation, however the West route was approximately 2 miles further than the East at 22 miles, making the overall route approximately 30 miles. This varies slightly between runners as there is no set route in either direction, just a number of grid references, which must be visited in order.
Goathland offered a cold but beautiful day for the race with clear blue skies and no wind allowing runners to take in some stunning views.
Ripon runners had three teams entered. Winners of the overall event were Alex Fawcett and Paul Walker in a fantastic time of 4 hours 45 minutes. They were closely followed by Dave Jelley and Pete Chapman who claimed second overall team back in a time of 5 hours 1 minute. The third team of Matthew Holt and Claire Baker couldn’t quite make it a Ripon Runners 1,2,3 but did complete the course in 5 hours 47, coming in as 5th overall team and 2nd mixed team.
This race has been resurrected by the Let’s Run team and the generous cut off time would make it a great race for many Ripon Runners to enjoy in future years.
