Sub 90 min for Chatwin at GNR

Twenty Ripon runners joined the thousands on the annual pilgrimage to Newcastle for the 2017 Great North Run. Competed in windy conditions, the race is undulating in places and finding your rhythm amongst 50,000 other athletes is never easy. A race started in 1981, by retiring master of the mike, and local hero, Brendan Foster, the race starts in Central Newcastle, before crossing the Tyne Bridge, and visits Gateshead and Jarrow before finishing in South Shields.

Following in the steps of Mo Farah, Haile Gebrselassie and Paula Ratcliffe, John Chatwin broke the 90 minute mark, in 1hr 29 mins and 34 seconds, for a half marathon personal best, with Dave Binks finishing second Ripon Runner in 1hr, 35 mins and 18 seconds. First lady for Ripon was Collette Woods in a respectable 2 hrs 25 mins and 25 seconds.

Other times include Peter Brodie (1.46.18), David Ritson (1.48.35), Matthew Harman (2.05.53), Chris I’Anson (2.08.08), Dan Ross (2.18.28), Robert Mundy (2.22.03), Aileen O’Kane (2.26.59), Graham Hancock (2.30.54), Caroline Reed (2.32.57), Alison Herbert (2.33.37), Jane Grundy (2.39.03), Ruth Grundy (2.39.04), Linda Cadman (2.44.41), Nicole Sutton (2.44.41), Jo Thwaites (2.44.41).
