Solstice Saunter

Report by Helen Cox

A small group of Ripon Runners joined in with 744 runners to taken part in the Solstice Saunter 5 mile run on the evening of 21st June.

This is a circular route that starts from the Cavendish Pavilion car park at Bolton Abbey and runs a clockwise loop up through Strid Wood to Barden Bridge, then back along the road to the finish line at Cavendish Pavilion. The route goes along some tarmac and gravel paths with a short section on grass, runners experienced beautiful views and picturesque scenery while embracing the mighty hills that caused the calf muscles to burn by the time you reached the top. Friendly and encouraging marshals along the way and each runner received an amazing Solstice Saunter medal and buff at the finish. Still scratching from all the midge bites but definitely a run worth considering next year.

Well done to Trish, John and Graham who had all run the previous evening at the Harrogate Summer league and still managed to achieve great times
Results are:
Beth Constantine 42.37 (13th female out of 531)
Helen Cox 44.53
Graham Tinsley 49.17
John Garbutt 1 hr 4.48
Trish Garbutt 1 hr 14.41

(Sorry if I missed anyone out as the results don’t show the club with the names)
