Sally Wins Age Category Twice
Sally Houghton took part in two fell races at the weekend, both in lovely sunny conditions in the Yorkshire dales.
The first was Pen-y-Ghent Fell Race on Saturday afternoon, a slightly changed route from last year and just over 6 miles long with 1,800 ft of ascent. The route took runners up the steep side of the hill, a bit of a scramble rather than a run, before a lovely long descent over open moorland back to the village of Horton in Ribblesdale. Sally was 3rd lady overall and first in age category in a time of 1hr 4 mins.
On Sunday it was back to the short and sharp BOFRA series, this time at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales in Kettlewell. A very steep ascent through what is known as “the chimney” – a steep rocky gully then up on to the open fell before the steep scree descent. Sally was 4th lady this time, and once again first in age cat in a time of 14:44 mins.
