Sally Houghton Two Wins in Two Weeks

The last two weeks have kept Sally Houghton busy as she attended Farleton Knot Fell Race and Ambleside Fell Race. At Farleton Knot the course is 4.5 miles long but with 1,200 ft elevation, gained by going twice up Farleton Fell, once the easy runnable way, the other up a vertical scree on hands and knees. With wonderful views across to the Lake District and steep ascents on scree, this race was breath-taking in many ways, and Sally managed 4th lady overall and another 1st in her age category in 47 minutes.

The Ambleside fell race was part of Ambleside Sports, which has been held annually for over 125 years hosting a range of traditional Lakeland events, one of which is the senior guides fell race. The 2 mile course goes straight up and back down with 800ft ascent through thick bracken and over grass and rock covered paths. In the wet conditions there were plenty heavy falls and tumbles for many runners, but Sally managed to stay upright for a great race coming in at 5th lady overall and again first female in the V50.
