Rudding ParkRace 10k, 10 May
Report by Lena Conlin
This was the first time this event has been run.
The race started at 7 pm at Rudding Park and was run entirely in the grounds. The start was downhill on hard trail, so a fast start to get the legs moving. From there the terrain became undulating through woods and across grassy tracks. The dry conditions meant it was still hard underfoot but uneven. I found this challenging on tired legs and ankles.
There was a water station half way, the route was well marked will lots of jolly encouraging marshals. The course was a little long at 6.54 miles and finished up a hill.
Had it been wet lately the course would have been much more challenging and good trail shoes would have been needed, but as it’s been dry for weeks, road shoes were fine.
At the finish we were given a wooden medal, a bottle of water and as we moved away from the finish there were goody bags with reusable thermal water bottles, tea bags, chocolate, vouchers and an energy drink. There was also beer or pop, ice cream and a hot sandwich.
I highly recommend this race, watch out for entries opening, I think it will be popular.
The race was chip timed.
