Roseberry & Coniston Fell Races
Four members took part in the Roseberry Romp fell race last Tuesday evening, on a course offering 1,100 ft of ascent over 5 miles. After conquering Roseberry Topping, runners are faced with a sharp descent before heading up little Roseberry and back to the finish. Joe Lofthouse was first RR back in 40 minutes 16 seconds, followed by Gary Bastow who was first in his age category in 43:09, along with Sally Houghton (44:32) and Martin Gabriel (47:56).
A few days later Sally took part in the classic Coniston Gullies BOFRA fell race, a 1 mile course and 900 ft of steep ascent, followed by an even steeper descent over scree and rock with sharp drops over grass and through bracken to add to the interest. The weather was fantastic with glorious sunshine made this a wonderful setting for one of the hardest fell races in the series. Sally was 3rd lady and once again claimed 1st in age category.
