Rombalds Stride
The town of Guiseley near Leeds hosted the Rombalds Stride on Saturday, a 22 mile long course mainly of road route, which took runners around Baildon, Ilkey and Menston along with 3,100 feet of ascent. Runners had to cope with snow showers for most of the course and cold feet that plunged in to deep boggy moorland along the tops. A final slippery ascent of Otley Chevin through mud during in the last 2 miles was hard going on tired legs. The event was sold out and a quality group of runners finished in amazingly quick times with Jill Holt running strong for a 4 hour 2 minute finish while Tim Joynson & Simon McCudden arrived back in 5 hour 26 minutes. Matthew Holt was back 3:56.
