Rat Race Man vs Lake
In the South of the Lake District, Julian Davis and Sheena Jackson took part in the Rat Race Man v Lakes on Saturday, part of the Man vs series of 3 races. Below is Sheena’s report:
The race set off across the soft sands of Morecombe Bay with some energy sapping wading through sea channels with strong currents. After 5 miles the race heads inland over Lakeland hills and up to a tarn, which required a swim across, complete with rucksacks (a stiff test for the couple’s dry bags). More scenic running followed this and the couple then headed down to water obstacles and more swimming in Windermere, which was surprisingly warm. Then it was on with more running and up to a Lakeland tarn for another swim with obstacles and then the race took them down to Coniston Water for a short kayak then a run to the finish with one final obstacle. The race measured 31.5 miles on Sheena’s Garmin and took the pair 7 hours 45 minutes. Julian struggled with a knee injury, mading descents tricky and painful but overall the pair had a thoroughly good day out. Again, not one to do for a time but highly recommended if you fancy a race with a bit of ‘adventure’ thrown in…
