Ranger Ultras
On Saturday Ranger Ultras offered three events all starting and finishing in Hawes. The original Yorkshire 3 Peaks Ultra is described as an adventure for all ultra-racers, from first timers all the way to elite athletes. The route runs through superb and inspiring North Yorkshire scenery over classic limestone trails. The route follows in the footsteps of Roman Legions over the Cam Road before taking the Yorkshire three peaks of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent, returning along the Cam Road. Total distance 70km.
New for 2019 is an optional 30km extension, making the total distance up to 100km. Simply run the 70km Y3P Ultra as normal then, provided you finish the 70km race back at Hawes by midnight (15 hours) you then have the option from Hawes, over Great Shunner Fell to Thwaite and back to Hawes. The total race time allowed for the 100km race is 24 hours.
Finally there is a 50k option following the Pennine Way over the Cam Road to Horton-In-Ribblesdale, then summiting Pen-y-Ghent, before returning along the Cam Road back to Hawes.
Colm O’Cofaigh took on the testing 70k route to finish in a great time of 11 hours 10 minutes.
Claire Baker completed the 50k option, finishing 5th overall and 1st lady in a time of 6:21 and taking 50 minutes off the ladies course record.
