PECO race 3

On a dry, sunny day, more spring like than January, 4 Ripon athletes attended round 3 of The PECO cross country league, at West Park Leeds. In the ladies race, Angie Benson showed a tremendous turn of foot, beating her previous best by 4 minutes. Racing prominently throughout she gave everything until the finish, finishing 118th from over 400 athletes in a top quality field. In the men’s race, Mark Ryder showed little ill effects from chasing Olympians at the previous days cross country championships, by coming in 78th in a field of over 500 men. Alex Macey was next home for Ripon, with Andy Purll, not far behind.

Race 4, gives Ripon runners a great reason to take part as it’s at Crimple Valley Harrogate. It would be amazing if we could encourage a few more to the start line. It really is a great series, you don’t need any special equipment such as spikes, and is a brilliant introduction to cross country racing.
