PBs at York Marathon
The York Plusnet Marathon (Sunday 12 Oct) returned for the second year and proved popular again as 7,000 runners congregated in central York for the start.
A group of Ripon Runners tackled the route and, as with every marathon, many stories unfolded as personal best times were recorded.
Paul Walker proved to be the quickest of them all, returning to road running after many off road exploits this year, and recorded a new PB of 3 hours 8 minutes 40 seconds. Paul was followed by James Boddy in (3:20:48) and Billy Conlin with a new PB of 3:35:24.
Allan Hansen proved he is getting back to his best with a 3:41:31 and Dave Nicklas’ extra hours of training over the summer paid off with a great 3:46:41.
First time marathoner Dave Ritson put in an epic performance for a 4:06:13 with Kim Holden continuing the PB theme with a 4:10:17.
Other marathon finishers were: Keith Hawkins (4:14:30), Lesley Willloughby (4:15:53), Lena Conlin (4:17:20), Chris Brown (4:26:26), Andy Matheson (4:43:18). Jane Grundy put her recent Loch Ness marathon effort behind her, by encouraging and mentoring her sister Ruth through her first ever marathon with a 4:51:50 finish.
Katie Harrison was Ripon’s final representative to cross the line in a superb sub five hour 4:56:10.
