Marathon Efforts for Magnificent 7
The club was represented in three marathons on Sunday, in Scotland, England and France.
The long established Edinburgh marathon saw Gary Wilks return to his favourite venue to complete the race yet again in 3 hours 40 minutes 48 seconds, while John Chatwin finished his first ever marathon in another great sub 4 hour time of 3:54:29. Robin Kehoe completed the Half Marathon in 2 hours 13 mins. Some newer members may not know Robin as he has been recovering from a hip operation, but he has previously completed many marathons / LDWA (Long Distance Walkers Association) events. I’m sure everyone at the club will be glad to see Robin making good progress on his way back to full fitness.
Liverpool hosted their annual race with two members completing the 26.2 mile distance for the first time. Douglas Scott completed in a great time of 3 hours 12 minutes. Claire Childs finished in 4 hours 49 minutes 15 seconds, while Simon McCudden and Nicole Sutton supported Sam Miles to a 4:52:44 finish. In the 13.1 mile event Amy Berrieman ran her maiden half marathon in a great sub 2 hour time of 1:53:07, followed by team mates Jo Thwaites (2:02:52) and mother and daughter duo of Linda Cadman and Lucy Marston (2:48:00)
Meanwhile Dave Jelley, finisher of numerous marathons, ran the Mont St Michel Marathon, and the race was brilliantly organised on traffic free roads. The route is point to point starting in Cancale with beautiful views over the bay and finishing on the spectacular causeway leading to Mont St Michel. Great supporter and bands all the way along the route helped Dave achieve a good for age London Marathon qualifying time of 3 hours 18 minutes.
