London Marathon
On the hottest day recorded for the London Marathon, thousands of brave runners still managed to navigate their way through central London to complete the 2018 marathon, with many RR amongst them too. Although the official temperature was around 23 degrees, the mixture of road, surrounding buildings and crowds made it feel much warmer, and almost all runners were at least half an hour slower than expected. The main aim for many was just to complete it as the hope of a PB time were quickly forgotten.
Two members who normally finish around the three hour time we first back for RR. Trevor Bosomworth was first for the club (he described the conditions as “brutally hot”) in a time of 3 hours 39 minutes 30 seconds, well below his PB time. Douglas Scott managed a sub 4 hour time in 3:55:32. Heather Glegg was just over the 4 hour time in 4:00:51, while Anneke Imeson was next in 4:02:35, followed by Anne Cheeseman 4:15:55, Lena Conlin 4:37:57 and Sarah Bromiley 4:41:24. Sub 6 hours were recorded by Annette Petchy 5:33:07 and Robert Mundy 5:56:24, while Jo Thwaites and Linda Cadman finished their first marathon in 6:14:44 and 6:17:30 respectively, and were supported by Nicole Sutton who finished in 6:28:56.
