Lightwater Valley 10k

A windy but sunny day welcomed 29 Ripon Runners to Lightwater Valley Theme Park for another well organised race by North Stainley School and RaceBest.
The route has changed over recent years but this years was the same as last and proved challenging with 3 hills, most of which were into a strong headwind.
Almost 300 runners gathered on the start line ready for the gun to fire. After a quick downhill start on grass the route hit the roads around Lightwater Valley climbing up for the first 1.5 miles before dropping quickly down. The halfway point was hit on the steep middle climb before an easy downhill section. Mile 4 proved to be the most challenging for most, as runners turned into the wind for a long uphill section. Once this was negotiated it’s was a downhill sprint to the finish for the last mile and a bit.
First home for Ripon Runners was John Chatwin in 5th place in 38.32. Closely followed by Simon Cave in 7th in 38.50 and Doug Scott in 8th in 38.55.
Some great results followed particularly Paul Layfield knocking 3 mins off last year and Graham Tinsley recording a PB on a tough course. Training paying off once again guys!!
