Kilnsey Crag Fell Race
Report by James Stuart-Mills
I was in the Kilnsey Crag fell race at the Kinsey show on Tuesday. It was somewhere between crazy and foolish but I survived uninjured, which was my main objective. We started in the main showground in front of a huge crowd as is customary and after the initial sprint we were over the stream and into the scree climb to the top.
Then it was a perilous descent on feet and bum, clinging onto a wire fence and a rope down the famous Chimney. I took 14 mins 40 which I am very happy with especially as I was unscathed! I have no idea how the winner finished in 7 mins 53 unless I took a longer route or he flew down. There were some very high quality runners in the field and even though I was well down on timing I really enjoyed it. To be recommended for brave souls at their risk!
