Jolly Holly Jog 2013-12-29
Fine weather, beautiful Studley Royal scenery and lots of mud made the perfect setting for the Jolly Holly Jog now in its 27th year. Runners from all over the UK were joined by runners from Austria, Australia and America, plus many other countries as well.
Nearly 700 participants set out from Hell Wath fields to join Whitcliffe Lane before hitting the mud and puddles of Mackershaw Woods and the top deer field. A steep slippery descent brought runners to the lake side and in full view of the rather bemused visitors to the park. From the Studley car park a steep grassy bank separated the regular off-road runners from the less experienced, as this section always trips up those only shod in road shoes. The obelisk was the next landmark before runners headed off around the north side of Studley Park. The final water-logged section, via Hell Wath Cottage brought runners to the football fields and the finishing line. Well mud splattered competitors were able to clean off at Ripon Rugby Club, which made for an excellent race headquarters. The new technology, all runners were chip timed, worked brilliantly and ensured an accurate time for all entrants.
First overall was Jack Simpson of Leeds City AC in 33 minutes 28 seconds; 2nd – Tristan Learoyd of New Marske Harriers in 35:07; 3rd – Scott Harrington of Otley AC in 35:49.
First Lady was Caroline Lambert of Wetherby Runners in 39:26; 2nd lady – Sharon Barlow of Ripon Runners 39:41; 3rd lady – Jennie Guard of Leeds City AC – 43:33
Team prizes were awarded to:

- Female – Harrogate Harriers
Finally, a big thank you to all who took part and made the race such a great event. We thank all of those people who have written to us with messages of support about the race, its organisation, and particularly the marshalling (well done Ripon marshals).
