Jill Wins at Scarborough

Jill Holt continued Ripon’s winning ways claiming first female at Saturday’s LDWA Scarborough Rock.

The event is held every two years, alternating each year with the Filey Flyer. The course this year was just under 26 miles long with over 3,000 foot of elevation, and combines muddy fields and tracks with sections of road and even a few hundred metres of beach along the towns south bay.

Mild weather and hardly any wind made for perfect running conditions, and Jill was navigated around the course by Tim Joynson and Simon McCudden, and finished the race in 5 hours 7 minutes to claim first lady and 22nd overall out of 170 finishers. Tim and Simon closely followed in 5 hours 10 minutes.

Paul Walker would have been first back for Ripon, but unsurprisingly took a few wrong turns, which resulted in him completing extra miles and losing time, thus finishing 21st place in 4 hours 58 minutes, while Matthew Holt was 12th in 4 hours 27 minutes. The quartet of Claire Baker, Anneke Imeson, Heather Glegg and Nicole Sutton ran the whole route together for a 5 hour 58 minute finish. Robin Kehoe was Ripon’s other entrant, and he walked the course in 8 hours 4 minutes.
