Its Grim UP North Settle 10 mile, 23 Feb

Report by Sarah Woffinden

When you enter a race in the Dales in February you don’t expect brilliant weather, but the day before this run, the A65 to Settle was still shut with flooding until 4pm. The organisers were great, giving regular updates on the conditions, and someone did a recce and posted it online, but I did wonder if we were going to be running or wading through a flood.

As it turned out, this out-and-back road run, down gorgeous lanes with stunning Dales scenery, was a bit splashy in parts, but a total treat. There were 3 distances on offer, 10k, 10 miles and half marathon. It was hilly but there was plenty of gentle downhill on the way home, so much so that at 8 miles in I was regretting not entering the half.

As you would expect from a Grim Up North event, it was friendly, relaxed but well marshalled and organised, with plenty of cake, beer and chocolate at the finish – can’t really improve on that in my opinion!

This is part of IGUN’s series of 6 Dales road races, with medals that create a Dales scene together.
