Hull Marathon

Report from Simon McCudden…

The Hull Marathon was resurrected in 2015 and now in its 4th year – thankfully despite a very bad forecast last Friday, the weather on Sunday was perfect for running, dull, cloudy with a hint of sunshine and dry! The race started outside the Hull Football and Rugby League stadium, a very interesting route taking in the historic city centre, docks, many parks in East Hull before heading back through the city centre to run up to and out and back across the Humber Bridge. Although the route was generally flat there was a long steady rise up to the Humber Bridge and coming back across the bridge, we faced a headwind and a gentle rise. The last 5 miles were downhill and flat – and it was great to see Lolly Hernandez supporting at the 23.5 mile point. The race finished inside the Hull Stadium which was a great experience.

Lena Conlin ran an excellent 4hrs 05 mins and was first in her FV50 age/female category, while Mark Brooks showed great determination for the last 4 miles to finish his first marathon in a very respectable 4hrs 34 mins. I ran a very steady and comfortable 4hrs 26mins.
