Harriers vs. Cyclists
Four members took part in the harriers vs cyclists race on Saturday, a fell race with a difference! Trevor Schofield, Steve Grange and Sally Houghton chose to run the 5.5 miles long course with 1,000ft of ascent, while Martin Gabriel took on the challenge of cycling the route! The race starts with a near vertical ascent, then winds its way across muddy cow fields, and then through woods where runners struggle to get round walking cyclists. It’s then up on to and around the open fell where runners hold their breath as the cyclists are finally able to race past at full speed. The race ends with the final near vertical descent where the race between cyclists and runners is lost and won. A great, but very tough event was enjoyed by all, and another fantastic effort by Steve Grange to finish in what was only his second fell race.
