Hardsmoors Saltburn Marathon

On Sunday 14 February members took to the North York Moors for the Hardmoors Saltburn Marathon, enjoying a mixture of blue skies, sunshine with the odd snow shower, mud and ankle deep freezing water. The course starts at Saltburn Leisure Centre, before heading along the coastline towards Skinnigrove. It then loops inland to Guisborough with a tough ascent to High Cliff Nab before returning to Saltburn.

Those completing the full course of 28 miles were Ripon Ultra Champions Alex Fawcett who claimed 3rd position overall in a time of 4 hours 12 minutes and Anneke Imeson (5:20) who was 4th lady. Other finishers were Michael Hall (4:30), Matthew Holt (5:01), Jim Berriman (5:02), Colm O’Cofaigh (5:40), Nicole Sutton and Kelly Dunkley were 20 minutes quicker than last year (6:39) and Lena Conlin (6:42). Claire Jamieson reached the last checkpoint at 22 miles before suffering with sickness and retired due to the cold conditions.

At the same event, the half course, which was in fact 16 miles long, was completed by 5 Ripon members; the first back being Jonathan Baker in 3 hrs. Amy berriman really enjoyed her first taste of off-road running and completed her longest race to finish in 3:11. She was followed by James Stuart Mills and husband and wife team Pete and Alison Brody.
