Hardmoors 55
Weather conditions at this year’s event were probably the toughest ever experienced by most of the runners and support crews, as snow and strong winds hit the North York’s Moors area.
Runners left the starting line in Helmsley aware that the weather was going to be bad, but conditions worsened more than expected, which resulted in the race being cancelled for those competitors reaching Kildale after 8.00 pm.
However, most RRs managed to reach the finish line in Guisborough. Steve Silver was first back for the club in 12 hours 18 minutes and was followed by the trio of ladies Nicole Sutton, Jane Grundy and Lena Conlin in 12 hours 55 minutes, while Colm O’Cofaigh finished in 13 hours 21 minutes.
Lucy Smith was one of about 100 runners who were instructed to retire at Kildale, but not before completing 43 miles of the course. David Allen decided to retire after 19 miles at Square Corner.
