Hardmoors 55
The Hardmoors 55 took place on Saturday 19 March, with the course being run South to North, reversing the route from the last two years. This made the 55 mile long route harder as the majority of the 8,500 feet of ascent was in the second half of the race. Starting in Helmsley, runners reached Osmotherley at 23 miles with relatively easy ascents. However, on departing Osmotherley they then tackled many steep ascents including Carlton Moor, The Wainstones, Captain Cooks Monument and finally Roseberry Topping. First back to the Guisborough finish line for Ripon, and 10 minutes quicker than last year, was Paul Walker in 9 hours 38 minutes in 21st position, while Claire Baker was 39th while also claiming 4th lady spot in 10 hours 15 minutes. Next was Matthew Holt (11:25), Lena Conlin enjoyed her first Hardmoors 55 with a great time of 12:55 with Colm O’Cofaigh completing yet another ultra in 13:05.
