Hanging Stone Leap
A large group of RR congregated for the 24 mile long 3,500 feet ascent LDWA Hanging Stone Leap event on Saturday 6 August. A cooling breeze on the highest peaks of the course was a relief to runners in the warm temperatures, as they climbed Capt Cooks Monument and Roseberry Topping before returning to Guisborough. Ripon had a great day claiming many top ten spots with 6 runners breaking 4 hours. Claiming second and third place overall was Billy Foreman closely followed by Pete Chapman in 3 hours 38 minutes, with Paul Walker only 8 minutes further behind in 3:46, while Douglas Scott put in a quick final 3 mile section for a 3:49 finish. Claire Baker (3:52) was second lady overall and took 15 minutes off last years time. Other finishers were: Matthew Holt (3:52), Iain Wallace (4:00), Tim Joynson (5:00), Nicole Sutton and Neil Dring (5:49) while Fred Clapham walked the full course. Other members including Simon McCudden, John Grundy, Dawn Griffin and Hayley Whipp opted for the shorter 14 mile course.
