Glencoe Marathon Gathering
Report by Kim Holden
On Sunday, 8th September, the Glencoe Marathon Gathering offered a marathon and half marathon for participants to choose from. Both races were quite close to the traditional distances of road races despite following the off road trail of the West Highland Way. The marathon started at 9am and dovetailed with the half marathon at 11am after a tough, boggy first section which included the Devil’s Staircase.
Phil and I both took part in the half marathon which started at Kinlochleven and ended in Fort William with transport back to the start. My watch recorded a distance of 13.42 miles and 2,150 ft of ascent. I finished in 2:43 and 7th in my age category and Phil did 3:14 and was 2nd in his age group. Not bad for a man with no kneecap!
I’m looking forward to entering the marathon in the future :)
