GB Ultra Race

Also on Saturday, in the midst of the Lake District National Park, the magnificent Whinlatter Forest Park hosted the GB Ultra Race. The race consisted of supposedly 5 mile long laps, but runners soon discovered the lap distance was nearer to 6 miles, with each lap also packing in over 1,200 ft of ascent. Advertised as the ‘toughest AND most beautiful 24 hour Lapped Race in the UK’, runners had to complete as many laps as possible in 24 hours. Those Completing 14 Laps or more earn a Gold GB24 Medal, those completing 8 laps or more earn a Silver medal, and those completing less than 8 laps earn the magnificent Bronze medal. Claire Baker took second female prize overall by completing the 14 laps required for a gold medal, covering an incredible 84 miles with a total ascent of 17,125 ft in the process. Alex Fawcett completed 13 laps for a Silver medal, while Paul Walker also took a silver medal for his 10 laps.
