Fountains 10km Race

Report by from Karen Lennox

Fountains 10Km is described as an undulating multi terrain course with some elevation!!!. Well it did not fail to meet expectations starting and finishing on an “incline” with some off road, mud and puddles thrown in for good measure. The “hill of pain” is definitely aptly named, but the brass band playing “I would walk 500 miles” at the summit raised everyone’s spirits and the pain was over in a flash. All finishers received a fantastic goody bag containing a Tee shirt, pork pie, chocolate and fruit. There are also lots or refreshments and obligatory cake on sale at the venue.

The event is superbly well organised, well signposted and well marshalled, registration was slick. It really does pay to arrive early if you travel by car as the car park soon fills up as do the surrounding country lanes.
Being hugely popular, 438 runners started and finished the course. Ripon Runners had a magnificent showing with 43 club members competing and many achieving course PB’s and bringing home prizes:

The male team won 1st prize.
First male home was Rob Harrison with a superb 37.48, followed by Simon Cave 38.40 and then Dougie Scott 40.00. Simon Cave also won 3rd in his age category.

The ladies also showed their mettle with Kari Munro being RR first lady with a time of 45.33. Prizes were awarded for 1st FV 60 Fiona Alder 55.24 and 1stFV50 Morag MacDowall 48.13.
