Dewsbury 10km
Report by John Chatwin
Nine Ripon Runners ventured south for the flat and fast Dewsbury 10km. The route is an out and back course similar in many respects to the Abbey Dash in Leeds.
A big field gathered at 9am on Bradford Rd braving the cold and drizzle (perfect running conditions) ready for the off. The gun went and 2033 runners sprinted away up the slight up hill first 5km, reaching the tight u-turn halfway point and heading back in to the town centre for the finish.
First home for Ripon was John Chatwin (me) in 36.51. Followed by Doug Scott in 37.24. with Dave Binks continuing his return to form in 38.28.
Jamie Baker (38.50) and Paul Layfield (39.18) both had fantastic runs recording big PB’s and proving that consistent, hard training really does pay off. More to come from them both I’m sure as well.
Next was Mark Ryder in a not too shabby 39.22 and Mike Hernandez in 42.29. A great result for both on little training recently.
Sarah Woffinden and Paul Ackerley both had strong runs finishing in 50.13 and 52.41 respectively.
With the Summer League races in the not too distant future it would be great to see more members pushing for PB’s over the coming months. As Jamie and Paul have shown today put the effort in to training and reap the rewards in racing. You never know we might give Harrogate a run for their money this year!
