Dalby Dash 10k
Report by Chris Cooper
Three Ripon Runners entered the race through Dalby Forest near Pickering on Sunday. The run is always held on Remembrance Sunday and starts at 11:02am, after 2 minutes silence at the start line. Funds are split between Help for Heroes and Pickering Rotary Club.
The event is chip-timed, although there are no timing mats at the start line, which is a shame as I would have equalled my 10k PB. The first two miles are a steady climb up a private tarmac road, the first runners to reach the top receive The King and Queen of the Hill prize, which was a long-sleeved technical running top this year. The next three miles of the route is on compacted, wide tracks through the forest and is entirely downhill, which meant that Trish, Fiona and I all achieved our 1 mile and 1k PBs!
The race is well marshalled with a water station after two miles and a Ron Hill memento to each finisher. In 2017 this was gloves, last year it was a hi-vis vest and this year we received a fluorescent yellow buff, which we will all be sporting at club tonight.
Entries to next year’s race open in January and sell out quickly.
Results for Ripon Runners were:
Fiona Alder 53:21 (race PB)
Christine Cooper 01:10:35 (race PB)
Trish Garbutt 01:15:59
