Ben Campbell Trail Race

Report by Helen Cox

On Sunday 7th April, eleven Ripon Runners ran in the 5th Ben Campbell Trail Race 10k with the start and finish at the White Horse Car Park near Thirsk. This race is a non-profit charity event celebrating the life of Ben Campbell who was a local runner and supporting the UK Sepsis Trust. Ben grew up in Thirsk and tragically died at the age of 36 in January 2015.

The course is extremely hilly with what I’ve been told had a 336m (1100 ft) climb, much of which you had to walk and even then it was difficult to catch your breath before making your way down the other side. We all agreed that this was the most challenging event that we have ever run but at the same time, one of the best as the friendly atmosphere, great marshals and beautiful scenery made us all want to return next year for another go!

First back for Ripon Runners and 19th overall in a field of 122 was Michael Hernandez in 47.53, followed by Trevor Schofield in 22nd place in 48.57

Other results are:
Helen Cox 59.36
Stan Appleton 1.01.40
Kate Fleetham 1.13.30
Emily McIntosh 1.21.32
Ann-Marie Brown 1.21.33
Laura Vennell 1.21.34
Fiona Hernandez 1.23.17
Linda Cadman 1.23.17
Karen Lennox 1.23.17

A big well done to Emily as this was your first ever 10k – what a course for your first race and you did brilliantly.
