So Dr. B. has got a Heart as well! or Why has our Chairman become so Slow?
Aortic stenosis is the short answer. The Aortic Valve sits at the top of the left heart. It is through this valve that all the blood has to pass before circulating around the body. Mine has been getting narrower for five years but it is now catching up with me. The narrower the valve the slower I become. It has now reached the point where I will need a new aortic valve for which I am on the waiting list so at any time I could disappear from view! The waiting list for valve surgery is 2-3 months. Following surgery it will probably be 3 months before I’m running again.
The good news is that my coronary (heart) arteries are in excellent shape, the angiogram proved that, also the ventricle (heart muscle) itself is functioning well so after a new valve maybe lots of PBs?
Yesterday I enjoyed a steady run around Shaun Johnstone’s 10 mile route in 1hr 36 (1-26 last year). I know now not to go for a sprint finish so at the end I still felt fine.
