Gorillas greet Ripon Runners at Old Swan Hotel
Awards, entertainment and Ripon Runners annual dinner, what more could one want on a miserable, January Saturday night? We will all go into February and Spring rejuvenated and ready to be challenged on road, track, trail and fell.
The Old Swan Hotel is a magnificent location for 120 revellers who graced the hotel with their presence last night, courtesy of Dave Ritson the general manager. The garden room is in fact a magnificent ballroom made even more perfect by having a stage for the presentations and entertainment. After a superb dinner members had to endure the speech of the Chair before the presentations (see below for award winners) which moved seamlessly into the entertainment. Guests were shocked to discover that Jill Holt is quite the vocalist (Matt has been heard before) then her troupe of gorillas proceeded to perform the Congolese, jungle version of River Dance!!
Disco kept most of us up until 1.00am, I was just so glad that we had booked a night in the hotel.
A big thanks goes to Jackie Turner for being in overall charge of arrangements, the Holts for providing so many generous prizes; an innovation this year being silver, bronze and wooden-spoon awards in each championship category. Yes I was a lucky wooden spoon winner! Final thanks to Bully, Jill and her team of thespians in pulling off gorilla related entertainment!
