UTMB for Chapman and Foreman
On Friday 29 August Pete Chapman and Bill Foreman joined 2300 other runners for the truly epic challenge of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, a 105 mile race that takes in parts of France, Italy and Switzerland during the 32,000 feet of ascent, with help offered along the way by 2000 volunteers.
The route includes crossing Col du Bonhomme by moonlight and at sunrise, crossing Col de la Seigne into Italy and the magical Val Veni overlooked by Noire du Peuterey and the glaciers descending Mont Blanc. Later runners reach the Val Ferret, guarded by Dent du Géant and Grandes Jorasses before finally turning into Switzerland to relish the beautifully protected countryside. Then, with majestic presence of Mont Blanc before them, they dive down towards the finishing line in the heart of Chamonix.
Both Ripon Runners completed the race together in a total time of 37 hours 6 minutes.
