Ripon Tri 2014
Many Ripon Runners took to their wet suits and bikes as well as their running shoes for the Ripon Tri on Saturday 12 July. The annual event, which is based at the city’s racecourse and draws a capacity field of 900 competitors, starts with a one mile swim around the open water lake before a 28 mile bike ride around surrounding villages and a final 6.25 mile run.
The warm conditions didn’t stop many recording personal best times for this event with Billy Conlin 2 hour30 minutes PB, Pete Brodie (2:40), Martin Cunningham (2:41), first timer Jo Hope (2:48), and Emma Oates (2:55 PB).
Jill Holt took 31 minutes off last year for a sub 3 hour 2:59 PB, and a broken toe on leaving the lake didn’t stop Lena Conlin from completing the bike ride and run for a 3:01 PB. They were followed by Caroline Bentham (3:03) and John Bull (3:24).
Martin Cunningham’s son, Will, came 3rd in the junior event completing the 400m swim / 8k bike and 2.4k run in 38 mins 46 seconds.
