Ripon SAS (Sally, Anneke, Sheena) Storm Smugglers

The rain held off on Saturday 23 August, which meant a beautiful sunny day welcomed runners at the LDWA Smugglers Trod event. The route starts from Fylingthorpe Village Hall adjacent to Robin Hoods Bay on the Yorkshire coast and combines 25 miles with 2,200 feet of ascent.

Supporters dressed as pirates and wenches are positioned at check points on the course to offer refreshments and food to runners and walkers.

A couple of wrong turns meant that a group of four runners totalled almost 27 miles but that didn’t stop Ripon claiming a 1-2-3 for the first ladies back overall with Sally Leck, Anneke Imeson and Sheena Jackson returning to the village hall in 5 hours 10 minutes. Matthew Holt and Tim Joynson were close behind (5:11) with the trio of Simon McCudden, John Grundy and Mike Pennock returning in 6 hours 11 minutes.
