Hardmoors Series – Roseberry Race
The last of the 2015 Hardmoors 26.2 Series races was held on Sunday 13 December, and as usual organiser Jon Steele gave competitors a bonus of extra miles, providing a course 4 miles longer than the race name suggested. With wintery conditions making the 5,185 feet of ascent difficult, all competitors deserved a huge amount of respect for completing such a tough course, which included two ascents of Roseberry Topping in the early stages.
As usual Ripon ladies collected silverware, this time it was Kim Holden who was the star, winning the V50 prize and finishing alongside Simon McCudden in 7 hours 43 minutes.
Rounding off a great 2015 of long distance runs were Claire Baker and Tony Carr. Claire has managed top 3 finishes at other Hardmoors races this year and again had a great run to finish 5th female overall in 6 hours 9 minutes. Tony, who’s completed many half and full marathons this year to raise money for charity, finished his longest race to date in 7 hours 50 minutes.
Jonathan Baker, who now knows the North Yorks Moors better than most having done practice runs of most of the routes with wife Claire this year, ran the 15 mile long ‘half’ marathon race in a time of 3 hours 30 minutes.
