Hardmoors 15 and 30

New member Jonathan Baker made his Ripon Runners debut in style with back to back races over the festive period. Husband of Ripon running ace Claire, and with just a few months of training with her, Jonathan ran his first ever race at the clubs Jolly Holly Jog 10k event.

Not content with that, he then completed the Hardmoors 15 mile race just five days later on a very windy New Year’s day. The tough and undulating 15 mile course is a circular route starting at Robin Hoods Bay and heading northbound to Whitby, on its southward leg passing by Whitby Abbey and along stunning coastline to return back to Robin Hoods Bay and the race finish.

Jonathan and Claire, along with dog Lola, completed the course in a great time of 2 hours 46 minutes. Fellow club mate Martin Gabriel also enjoyed the route to finish in 2 hours 22 minutes.

There was no half measures for Paul Walker though when he tackled the full 30 mile route on the same morning, as he looks to improve on an epic 2014 that included many long distance events. The 30 mile race follows a similar route to the 15 miler but also adds Ravenscar to Hayburn Wyke before heading back along the Cleveland Way back to Robin Hood’s Bay. Paul finished in a very impressive 29th overall in 4 hours 55 minutes.
