Foreman and Imeson Rule at Wensleydale Wedge

Ripon Runners faced two great challenges at Sunday’s LDWA Wensleydale Wedge event. First they had to negotiate flooded roads between Leyburn and Bainbridge, with all forced to take a detour on higher roads to reach the start at the village of Askrigg or abandon their journey completely. With just over half the 300 entrants making it to the start, they then had to endure numerous ankle deep flooded areas, gale force winds and torrential rain, with the first few miles run on road due to the riverside paths being under water.

A high number of Ripon members completed the 24 mile course, which has over 2,500 feet of ascent, including a tough last 7 mile section running directly into the wind, from Castle Bolton back to Askrigg. Billy Foreman proved he has almost fully recovered from injury by winning the overall race, while Anneke Imeson claimed her second title in two months, with the Ripon Ultra Champion claiming first lady. Ripon also claimed 2nd, 3rd and 4th females with Claire Jamieson, Sheena Jackson and Kristie Taylor finishing together.

Special mention must go to Linda Cadman who, along with daughter Lucy Marston, completed her first LDWA event at the age of 65. What an event to pick for your debut

Other Ripon runners completing the race were: Dave Jelley, Ben Imeson, Michael Hall, Paul Walker, Matthew Holt, Douglas Scott, George Allinson, Paul Morgan, Ray Raper, Ian Wallace, Lena Conlin, Heather Glegg, Tim Joynson, Tony White, Nicole Sutton, Dave Nicholson, Jo Hope, Penny Iā€™Anson, Dave Nicklas, Jo Hope, Stuart Pender, Cath Lyons, Simon McCudden, James Stuart Mills, Lesley Willoughby, Kim Holden, Andy Purll, Claire Childs, Kelly Dunkley, Chris Bennett, Robin Kehoe, John Bull.
