Brass Monkey 2014
Ripon Runners took full advantage of the flat road conditions that make up the course of the annual Brass Monkey Half Marathon race held in York with conditions much milder than last year, which saw the event cancelled due to snow.
The 13.1 mile long course, which starts and finishes at York’s famous racecourse, was a chance to kick 2014 off in style, and that’s exactly what Tori Green did by being first Ripon member to cross the line in 1 hour 24 minutes and 37 seconds.
First male for Ripon was Derek McCreadie who was only 6 seconds behind in 1:24:43. Andy Turner was next at 1:28:00 followed by Donna Riddler who battled a heavy cold to record a stunning 1:32:40 with Simon McCudden finishing in 1:41:56.
Only 44 seconds separated daughter and father as Jane Grundy recorded 1:50:00 with John Grundy 1:50:44, and a trio of female runners completed the line up with Lesley Willoughby 1:53:13, Kim Holden 1:55:37 and Laura Strangeway 1:57:23.
