25th Hanging Stone Leap
Members turned out in force for the 25th Hanging Stone Leap LDWA event on Saturday 9 August to tackle the challenging 24 mile course. The route around the North Yorks Moors starts from Guisborough Rugby Club and among the 3,000 foot of ascent is Highcliffe Nab, Captain Cooks Monument and finally Roseberry Topping before returning to Guisborough.
Once again the volunteers who provide much needed support around the course and a meal at the finish did a fantastic job in keeping the competitors going.
Of the 107 competitors first back for Ripon and 4th overall was Paul Walker in 3 hours 58 minutes, followed by the dynamic duo of Ray Raper and Paul Morgan who were joint 8th in 4:12, with Matthew Holt 10th in 4:16. Anneke Imeson and Simon McCudden (5:24) followed, but John Grundy and Laura Strangeway took longer than expected due to a navigational error, a wrong turn after leaving Roseberry Topping meant they totalled 27.3 miles in 6 hours 24 minutes.
