Sheffield Half Marathon
Lolly Hernadez and James Stuart-Mills competed in the Sheffield Half on Sunday. Here are their stories:
Lolly provided support to the last runner in a fund raising contingent from York University at the Sheffield Half Marathon last Sunday finishing in 2:47:22.
The tough uphill start including ‘King of the Hill’ segment at mile 4 was aided by cool, dry weather and fantastic support from the locals.
The students have raised close to £1500.00 in aid of CALM highlighting suicide in young males. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/derwentsheffieldhalf
I decided to dip my toe into “Big Running” and did the Sheffield half marathon yesterday.
It was weird turning up at a race and there being SO MANY PEOPLE……thousands and thousands, and I didn’t see anybody I knew – completely different from the usual trail stuff around N Yorkshire!
Very hilly in the first half, very sweaty, but a nice route up and out into the peak district, then back again. Well supported all the way.
This was my first event at this distance since hurting my foot back in November/December, and bearing in mind the course, my 1.56 doesn’t seem too bad.
The pint of alcohol free Erdinger at the finish line was awful, but nice medal…
