Hardmoors race organisors introduced a new race on Saturday for 2018, The Hardwolds 80, a run that follows the Yorkshire Wolds Way from the Humber Bridge to the seaside town of Filey.
Three members were amongst the 204 entrants tackling the mainly off road and undulating 80 mile long course, with almost 10,000 of ascent. Two villages (Millington and Winteringham) hosted indoor checkpoints where runners could get warm drinks and food before tackling the next section. With an 8am start and it being late November, most runners completed the majority of the race in the dark.
First back for Ripon was Claire Baker, who ran consistently strong from the start, to record an excellent 31st position overall and 4th lady in a time of 16 hours 43 minutes.
Enjoying(???) a bit more time running in the dark were Paul Walker and Matthew Holt, with Paul enduring a double electric shock from a fence 3 miles from the end, eventually finishing at 4am in a time of 20 hours 5 minutes.
