Brass Monkey 2012
York racecourse was the venue for the 30th Knavesmire Harriers Brass Monkey Half Marathon. The 13.1 mile road course was this year run in very windy conditions making the going tough for the 1683 runners taking part. In a race won by Yared Hagus in 66.42. There were strong performances by many of the Ripon Runners taking part. A superb performance by Suzanne Rickard placed her as first Ripon lady home in an impressive time of 1.47.34, with Jill Holt and Laura Strangeway also putting in times of under 1.50. Joe Lofthouse and Vicky Clayton both put in strong performances to finish in personal best times, with Sherrie Hunt and Annette Stainthorpe completing the distance for the first time. Mike Appleton led home Ripon’s runners in a time of 1.25.01 recovering from an injury. He was followed by Joe Lofthouse 1.30.39, Fred Clapham 1.38.25, Paul Walker 1.42.44, Keith Hawkins 1.44.20, Nigel Bower 1.44.58, Matthew Holt 1.45.17, Suzanne Rickard 1.47.34, Laura Strangeway 1.49.30, Jill Holt 1.49.48, Chris Bennett 1.49.51, Robin Kehoe 1.50.04, Vicky Clayton 1.58.51, Lena Conlin 2.02.35, Sherrie Hunt 2.05.16, Annette Stainthorpe 2.09.50, Kevin Jackson 2.22.44.
