31st March/1st April – Source of the Ure.

What a successful weekend! I would of course say that as joint organiser with Mike Pennock but the logistics, mini-bus support, route finding and absolutely everything went so well. Even the weather. Saturday was the day of the 44 mile, off-road route following the valley of the Ure. By dividing the route into 7 sections everyone could pick and mix how far they ran. After a night in Hawes Hostel, Sunday saw one group heading Westwards toward the head of the Ure on a 14 mile run, returning via the most attractive and, it appeared, totally unvisited Cotterdale. Another group headed toward Great Shunner Fell but I think tea/gift shops became too much of a temptation for some. Finally the cycling contingent were planning a 60 mile route home to Ripon. Did they ever make it? I have seen none of them since!

Two runners, Dave Jelly and Nick Wilson ran the whole 44 miles on the Saturday Run. Congratulations to them and of course to John Bull who is alleged to have run the whole way but via the roads as he is training for the South African Veterans Race.
