Ripon Runners was founded in 1984 as road running began its extraordinary ascendancy from the sport of eccentrics to probably Britain’s most participated in athletic activity. Our president, Monty Munson, now in his 80’s and still running, was one of our founder members as was Rodney Mills who in his seventies has found new fame as Britain’s over 70 indoor champion at 400 metres.

Burton Leonard 10k
Just over 300 runners turned out for Sunday’s Burton Leonard 10k race, with many Ripon members amongst them. Reece Dalton was first back for us in 3rd place overall in 36 minutes 35 seconds while Douglas Scott enjoyed another good run finishing 11th in 40 minutes 2 seconds. Cracoe Fell Race
Two members ran in the BOFRA Cracoe Fell Race (near Grassington) on Sunday. The race is part of the British Championship, and took runners up a long runnable ascent with a shorter and much steeper section near the top. The second of the DT series races was held on Saturday, this time the 30k distance event with 3,000 feet of ascent. The race started near Muker and headed up to Britain’s highest pub, the Tan Hill, before returning along the river to the finish line.

Away runs this summer:

We meet at the venue at about 6:45 to run at 7 pm. There are 3 groups of differing pace and distance. We then enjoy refreshments and a buffet afterwards.
Members can arrange to meet at the rugby club at 6:25 pm and share lifts.

Good race conditions this week saw an excellent turn out for our penultimate championship race. Some fabulous sprint finishes made it a close race for most competitors.
